The residency offers the dancers the freedom they need for research. In a showcase at the Aargauer Kunsthaus, they were able to share their current experiences with the audience.
Showcase at Aargauer Kunsthaus
28.07.2022
Yesterday, Choreographer Terence Kohler gave an exclusive insight into his work. During his residency at Residenzzentrum tanz+ he is working with dancers to consciously reinterpret the step material of classical ballet with contemporary expression. A 10-metre-long ballet barre that he set up in our studio for rehearsals serves as a fixed point for the choreography. He is particularly interested in the possibilities that open up when moving bodies meet a stable object, with the help of which they can explore gravity and manipulate their own axes in extreme ways.
In the Aargauer Kunsthaus, the banister was used as a ballet barre for the showcase. Four professional dancers showed insights into the current research:
- Ann-Kathrin Adam, Ballett der Oper Graz
- Lucie Horna, Ballett der Oper Graz
- Doris Becker, Deutsche Oper am Rhein
- Pablo Martinez, Staatsballett Berlin
Research
25.07.2022
After the tests on the ballet barre, choreographer Terence Kohler is discussing the details with dancer Pablo Martinez. Which movements feel natural? What is the breathing like while dancing? How can classical ballet steps be interpreted differently? The residency offers the ideal opportunity to research this topic.
Rehearsals in the Studio
25.07.2022
Pablo Martinez, dancer at the Staatsballett in Berlin, is testing out various movements on the ballet barre. Graphic designer Paul Putzar can directly edit and/or alienate the movements through video recordings. With this versatile tool, for example, elaborate live stage designs are possible. The artists can experiment freely in the residency.
